X Import as a Service (Deprecated)

- Download and install the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools: http://tinyurl.com/a32f
- Open a command prompt.
Change the working directory to the X Import directory.
Example: chdir “D:\X Import”Run the following on the command line including the quotation marks:
Open the registry editor by clicking on Start and selecting Run. Type in “regedit” and press Enter or push OK.
Open the following path within the registry editor:
My.Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\XImportCreate a new Key in the location above. Do this by clicking on Edit pulling down to New and then selecting Key. Name this key "Parameters".
Create a new String Value within Parameters and name it “Application”. Do this by using the directions above but select String rather than Key. Set the value of this String to be the parent of the X Import executable file.
Example: D:\X Import\XImport.exeCreate another String Value within Parameters and name it “AppDirectory”. Set the value of it to the main X Import directory.
Example: D:\X ImportClose the registry editor.
- Open Services. Start > Run > Type: services.msc > Push Enter
- Open X Import from the list by double-clicking on it.
- Where it says "Startup Type", click on the drop-down list and select Automatic.
- Click on the “Log On” tab at the top.
- Ensure that the radio button that says “Local System account” is selected and check the box that says “Allow service to interact with desktop”
- Click OK but keep the Services window open.
Open the X Import directory.
Example: D:\X ImportDelete the file named “XImport.err”
- Start the X Import service in the Services window by right clicking on X Import and selecting Start.
- Verify that a XImport.err file was recreated in the X Import directory.IIF
