How to Rate Individual Parcels

Rate individual parcels allow rating of the weight of each individual parcel instead of rating based on the total weight of all the parcels. For example, parcels weighing under 5 pounds have no charge but parcels over 5 pounds rate at $1 per pound.  If an order has 10 total parcels: 8 weighing in at 1 pound each, 1 weighing 6 pounds, and the other 10 pounds, the total rate will be $16 (only the parcels weighing over 5 pounds rate per pound).  Without rating per piece, the rate would calculate based upon the aggregate weight (22 pounds), not each parcel's individual weight, and charge $22.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Set up or select a rate chart with a Weight chart type for your customer and order type.

    • On demand orders use a Base Rate Chart. See Base Rate Charts - New / Edit Base Rate Chart for more information.

    • Route stops use a Stamp Rate Chart. See Base Rate Charts - New / Edit Stamp Rate Charts for more information.

  2. Enable "Rate Individual Parcels".

  3. Click the Weight Table button.

  4. Set up your weight table and click the OK button. See Weight Ranges for more information.

  5. Click the OK or Apply button on the rate chart form.

Rate details must also be configured since this Weight chart type uses zones, which requires zone rating configurations.

  • On Demand Orders: Specify zone-to-zone charges on the Base Rate Details tab, or check the "Revert to dist charge" for a mileage rate.

  • Route Stops: Specify zone charges on the Stamp Rate Details tab.

On Demand Order Example

I have orders that have an origin zip code 02114 and have a destination zip code of 02215 that I would like to rate individual parcels on.

I would need to set up my base rate chart's weight table for the zip codes. In this example, parcels weighing 5-6 pounds will be rated at $1 per pound and parcels over 10 pounds will be $2 per pound. Parcels under 5 pounds will not be rated.

When I create an order with 2 parcels where one parcel weighs 6 pounds and the second parcel 12 pounds, the base rate is:

(6x$1) + (12x$2) = $6 + $24 = $30

Route Stop Example

I have route stops in the 85004 area code that I would like to rate individual parcels on.

I would need to set up my base rate chart's weight table for the zip code 85004. In this example, parcels weighing 5-6 pounds will be rated at $1 per pound and parcels over 10 pounds will be $2 per pound. Parcels under 5 pounds will not be rated.

When I create a route stop with 2 parcels where one parcel weighs 6 pounds and the second parcel 12 pounds, the base rate is:

(6x$1) + (12x$2) = $6 + $24 = $30
