Order Types

This page is for the Operations App. For the Classic Operations App please see Order Types (Classic Operations App).

Order types define the timing and level of service for On-Demand orders.

To get to the Order Types section, go to Maintenance > Order Types.

How to Create a New Order Type

  1. Go to Maintenance > Order Types.

  2. Click the + button in the top right.

How to Copy an Order Type

  1. Go to Maintenance > Order Types.

  2. Click the action menu at the end of the row of the order type you would like to copy.

  3. Select Copy.

How to Edit an Order Type

  1. Go to Maintenance > Order Types.

  2. Click the order type you would like to edit or click the action menu at the end of the row and select Edit

Quick Tip

You can open 2 edit forms by selecting the checkboxes of the order types and clicking the edit pencil icon in the top right.

How to Delete an Order Type

  1. Go to Maintenance > Order Types

  2. Check the checkbox of the order type(s) you would like to delete. 

  3. Click the delete button in the top right.

Business Line

Type of delivery service being performed, which affects automatic time calculation for "Pickup within/Ready By" and "Delivery within/Deliver By". 

  • On-Demand - Provide Pickup within and Delivery within time windows.

  • Scheduled - Provide Ready By and Deliver By times as well as an additional checkbox to set a Pickup Within parameter.

  • Distribution - Provides Ready By and Delivery By times as well as an additional checkbox to set a Pickup Within parameter.

  • Freight - Removes any time and delivery expectations from the order type.

  • Line Haul - Removes any time and delivery expectations from the order type.

  • Air - Removes any time and delivery expectations from the order type.

GL Account

Corresponds with General Ledger code in QuickBooks. See GL Accounts.

Driver Split

Used for driver pay calculation. Used to set up order types that pay the driver more, less, or not at all. This works in addition to the driver pay percentage(s) set in the Human Resource record. See Human Resources for more information.

Sort Order

Manual override of displayed order type sequence.

Tax Exempt

If checked, removes applicable sales tax from order.

Require Delivery Before Invoicing

If checked, an order must be marked as delivered before it can be invoiced

Automatically Confirm Order

Automatically confirms order without having to select order as confirmed in the Driver App or Operations App.

Require verification before 

Check the box to require verification on an order before the selected action.

Auto assign pickup to route by rule:

Automatically places applicable On-Demand orders onto a route via route sort rules based upon pickup location. See Route Sort Rules

Auto assign delivery to route by rule:

Automatically places applicable On-Demand orders onto a route via route sort rules based upon delivery location. See Route Sort Rules

Address Restriction:

Displays warning if an address other than customer's address is chosen for origin or destination. 

  • No Address Restriction

  • Origin Address

  • Destination Address

Only the "Address" field is used for this check.

Pickup within

Visible when "On-Demand" is the selected Business line.

Amount of time from when an order is placed that is given to pick it up before it is considered late.

Delivery within

Visible when "On-Demand" is the selected Business line.

Amount of time from when an order is placed that is given to deliver it before it is considered late.

Ready by

Visible/Enabled when "Scheduled" or "Distribution" is the selected Business line.

The time of day an order must be placed by. Works in conjunction with the Deliver field below.

Deliver by

Visible/Enabled when "Scheduled" or "Distribution" is the selected Business line.

The time of day the order must be delivered by. 

Pickup within (Checkbox)

Visible when "Scheduled" or "Distribution" is the selected Business line.

If checked, the amount of time entered here is added to the Pickup From time, and will display in the Pickup To field on an order. 

Deliver

Enabled when "On-Demand", "Scheduled", or "Distribution" is the selected Business line

Uses hours of operations to determine if order type is available when the order is placed and determines the estimated delivery time. 

  • Today No Rollover

The following examples are based on Hours of Operation set from 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday and the "Today No Rollover" set for Deliver.

On-Demand Example

The Pickup To, Deliver To, Pickup Within, and Deliver Within times will be set to today with hours of operation. If an order with a 2 hour Pickup Within, a 4 hour Deliver Within is placed at 2pm, you will not be able to place an order with the selected order type. You would need to change the Pickup From date and time to the following business day to place the order.

Scheduled and Distribution Examples without Pickup Within

If an order is scheduled for 9am with a Ready By time of 10am and Deliver By time of 4pm, the Pickup To and Deliver To times will be set to the today at 4pm. The Pickup/Deliver From times would remain 9am on the day the order was placed.

If an order is scheduled after 10am with a Ready By time of 10am and Deliver By time of 4pm, you will not need to place an order with the order type unless you change the date to tomorrow, or the next work day, before 10am.

Scheduled and Distribution Example with Pickup Within

If an order is scheduled at 9am with a Ready By time of 10am, a Deliver By time of 4pm, and the Pickup Within option is set to 30 minutes, the Pickup To time is set to 9:30am to account for the 30 minute pickup within window. The Deliver To time be set to 4pm the following day. Note that if the Pickup Within time was set to 1 hour and 30 minutes, a time that would exceed the original Ready By Time, you would need to change the time or date to the following business day to place the order.

  • Today With Rollover

The following examples are based on Hours of Operation set from 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday and the "Today With Rollover" set for Deliver.

On-Demand Example

The Pickup To, Deliver To,  Pickup Within, and Deliver Within times will be set to the today with hours of operation. If an order with a 2 hour Pickup Within, a 4 hour Deliver Within is placed at 2:30pm, the Pickup To time is set to the today at 4:30pm and the Deliver To time is set to the following day at 6:30am. The Pickup/Deliver From times would remain 2:30pm on the day the order was placed.

Scheduled and Distribution Examples without Pickup Within

If an order is scheduled for 9am with a Ready By time of 10am and Deliver By time of 4pm, the Pickup To and Deliver To times will be set to the today at 4pm. The Pickup/Deliver From times would remain 9am on the day the order was placed.

If an order is scheduled after 10am with a Ready By time of 10am and Deliver By time of 4pm, the Pickup To and Deliver To times are pushed one day, unless the day falls on a day outside your hours of operation. Therefore an order scheduled at 10:01am Monday it would set both Pickup/Deliver To times for Tueesday at 4pm. An order scheduled Tuesday for 10:01am would set both Pickup/Deliver To times to Wednesday at 4pm. An order scheduled for Friday at 10:01am set both Pickup/Deliver To times to Monday at 4pm.

Scheduled and Distribution Example with Pickup Within

If an order is scheduled at 9am with a Ready By time of 10am, a Deliver By time of 4pm, and the Pickup Within option is set to 30 minutes, the Pickup To time is set to 9:30am to account for the 30 minute pickup within window. The Deliver To time be set to 4pm today. Note that if the Pickup Within time was set to 1 hour and 30 minutes, a time that would exceed the original Ready By Time, the Pickup To time would be set to 10:30am the following day, and the Deliver To Time would be set to 4pm. The Pickup/Deliver From Times would remain the time designated on the order which was 9am. 

  • Next Day

The following examples are based on Hours of Operation set from 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday and the "Next Day" set for Deliver.

The Pickup/Deliver From times would remain 2pm on the day the order was placed.

Scheduled and Distribution Examples without Pickup Within

The following examples are based on Hours of Operation set from 6am to 6pm Monday through Friday and the "Two Weekdays" set for Deliver.

On-Demand Example

The Pickup To, Deliver To,  Pickup Within, and Deliver Within times will be set to the next day with hours of operation. If an order with a 2 hour Pickup Within, a 4 hour Deliver Within is placed at 2pm, the Pickup To time is set to 4pm two weekdays from now and the Deliver To time is set to 6pm two weekdays from now . The Pickup/Deliver From times would remain 2pm on the day the order was placed.

Scheduled and Distribution Examples without Pickup Within

If an order is scheduled for 9am with a Ready By time of 10am and Deliver By time of 4pm, the Pickup To and Deliver To times will be set to 4pm two weedays from now . The Pickup/Deliver From times would remain 9am on the day the order was placed.

If an order is scheduled after 10am with a Ready By time of 10am and Deliver By time of 4pm, the Pickup To and Deliver To times are pushed three weekdays, unless the day falls on a day outside your hours of operation. Therefore an order scheduled at 10:01am Monday it would set both Pickup/Deliver To times for Thursday at 4pm. An order scheduled Tuesday for 10:01am would set both Pickup/Deliver To times to Friday at 4pm. An order scheduled for Thursday at 10:01am set both Pickup/Deliver To times to the following Tuesday at 4pm.

Scheduled and Distribution Example with Pickup Within

If an order is scheduled at 9am with a Ready By time of 10am, a Deliver By time of 4pm, and the Pickup Within option is set to 30 minutes, the Pickup To time is set to 9:30am to account for the 30 minute pickup within window. The Deliver To time be set to 4pm two weekdays later. Note that if the Pickup Within time was set to 1 hour and 30 minutes, a time that would exceed the original Ready By Time, the Pickup To time would be set to 10:30am in two weekdays, and the Deliver To Time would be set to 4pm. The Pickup/Deliver From Times would remain the time designated on the order which was 9am. 

  • Three Weekdays

Print

If checked, automatically prints dispatch ticket. See Dispatch Ticket.

Allow Email POP and POD to customer

If checked, sends the customer an email when the order is picked up or delivered.

Use deadline for return/continuation order ready time

If checked, return and continuation orders will use the delivery time from the original order as the ready time on the new order.

Ignore time windows when using Web Service

If checked, ignores Order Type time windows for X Remote or any other automated orders placed via an ASN manifest. It does not affect the Client Portal orders.

Ignore time windows when using Web Service

If checked, the hours of operation and holiday schedules will be ignored for integration work associated with this order type when coming in through the web service. If unchecked, hours of operation and holiday schedules will be enforced.

Update Time Windows

Specify if changing to this order type when editing an already placed order should recalculate time windows. 

  • No - Never recalculate automatically.

  • Yes - Always recalculate automatically.

  • Prompt - Prompt the user before recalculating.

Send to dispatch

If checked, orders with this order type will automatically be sent to the dispatch board, and orders using sort rules will display as On-Demand orders in the Driver App.

If unchecked, orders with this order type will not be sent to the dispatch board, and orders using sort rules will display as route stops in the Driver App. 

  • Dispatch show time

The time before pickup that a future order becomes an active order and is displayed on the active dispatch board. The default is 00 which means orders will only show on the Dispatch Board at the begining of their pickup window.

  • Pickup warning time

Amount of time before "Pickup within" deadline that an order is displayed as yellow on dispatch board.

  • Delivery warning time

Amount of time before "Delivery within" deadline, that an order is displayed as yellow on dispatch board.

  • Send to driver (Supplemental Email Notifications)

Allows drivers or dispatchers to receive supplemental email notifications upon dispatch of a new order (in addition to the driver being notified within CXT Driver) based on the order type being used and its “Send to driver” selection of Never, Always, or Prompt dispatcher.

The email will be sent to either the driver record’s Primary or Secondary email based on what is globally set to be currently active or the default dispatch email set within Global Options depending on what setting selection is made on the order type.

This setting will not replace the driver being automatically notified of new work assignments within CXT Driver. This setting only determines if a supplemental email notification will also be sent to the driver or dispatcher.

 

  • Never 

    • Drivers will not receive a supplemental email notification when an order using this order type setting is dispatched to them.

  • Always 

    • Drivers will receive a supplemental email notification to their driver record’s active email address (Primary or Secondary email) when an order using this order type setting is dispatched to them.

  • Prompt dispatcher (email only) 

    • When selected, an email notification will be sent to the default dispatch email address stored within the Global Options' Dispatch tab when any order using this order type setting is dispatched out to a driver.

 

Driver Message Format must be created and assigned to the Driver Record’s Primary or Secondary Email Format field for emails to be properly sent.

This feature was originally used for alerting X Mobile users that they have been dispatched a new job and controlled whether the work displayed within the application.

The X Mobile application is deprecated, but the email alert portion of this functionality continues to work with valid email addresses.

  • Recurring Order Confirmation Warning

When to displays the  warning icon on the dispatch board if a recurring order that has a driver pre-assigned before posting is not marked as "Confirmed". 

  • Never - No warning is displayed. This is the default for all order types.

  • After 5 Minutes - Displays the warning icon 5 minutes after the recurring order is posted.

  • After Pickup Warning Time - The warning icon will be displayed after the Pickup warning time

Prevent order type when distance is greater than

If checked, prevents order type from being used if the distance from pickup address to delivery address is greater than this value.

Adjust Delivery deadline by

Visible when "On-Demand" is the selected Business line and enabled when Deliver is set to "Today with No Rollover" or "Today with Rollover". 

Adjusts automatic calculation for the delivery deadline when an order exceeds a certain number of miles to create more realistic delivery times.

Adjust Pickup deadline by

Visible when "On-Demand" is the selected Business line and enabled when Deliver is set to "Today with No Rollover" or "Today with Rollover". 

Adjusts automatic calculation for pickup deadline when an order exceeds a certain number of miles to create more realistic pickup times.

Hours of Operations

This section is divided into Dispatch, orders placed in the Operations App and the Client Portal. 


Select the day and enter the From and To times orders using this order type are allowed, and optionally Service on specified holidays. See Holidays.

Service Type Filters

A grouping mechanism for filtering which order types will be available for an order. See Service Types to add Service Types to this list.

Check each service type you would like your order type to be available for.

Example:

Selecting service types "Standard" or "Economy" allows the "Flat Rate" order type to be selected.

Translations

Allows a name to be used as an order type instead of the order type id when using the web services.

Time Window Adjustments

Time window adjustments only affect the Distribution and Scheduled Business lines, from the General tab, based on location. All-time window adjustment rate zones can be overwritten.

How to Add a New Time Window Adjustment:

  1. Enter a location in the Location begins with field.

  2. Click the Get Details button.

  3. This will display the following fields: Origin ZoneDest ZoneOrigin Adjustment and Dest Adjustment. The Origin and Dest Adjustment fields are in seconds and can be positive or negative.

Example:

1 minute Origin Adjustment and a Dest Adjustment of -1 minutes:

Required Driver Input

Required Driver Inputs created on an order type will automatically be added to newly created orders using that specific Order Type in the Operations App.

Click the Add a Prompt button to add a new required driver input. See Driver App Required Driver Input for more information. 

RO Services

RO Services tab allows you to include or restrict vehicle classes from the Assisted Dispatch "Recommended Drivers" list by selecting which vehicle class drivers are associated with will be considered. Note: Drivers will still need the “Enable Driver" checkbox checked in their driver record RO Services tab.

Action Menu

Time Tester 

The Time Tester can be accessed by clicking the action menu at the bottom left of the form. This allows you to confirm the time windows and hours of operation set up will behave as expected. See Order Type Tester for more information.

Audit Trail

The audit trail displays changes made to the order type record as well as which user made the changes and when.

Deactivate/Activate

Deactivating an order type prevents the order type from appearing anywhere else in the application. A deactivated order type is not deleted, it's simply made unavailable until activated again.
